Medtrode provides their electrode design and fabrication expertise to researchers and clinicians. Services include modeling, structural design, material selection, prototyping, verification, characterization,
and small quantity fabrication. This cross-disciplinary service is made available by drawing on the talented neurophysiology scientists at University of Western Ontario, the electronic engineers at University of Waterloo and the manufacturing engineers at Integrated Manufacturing Technology Institute - a part of the National Research Council of Canada

Medtrode's electrode construction approach based on laser micro-machining offers the following advantages:

  • A wide range of conductive materials, i.e. gold, platinum, platinum-iridium, titanium, etc., can be precisely machined into conductor tracks
  • Various dielectric materials are compatible options as substrate or insulator
  • Precisely control over impedance and rigidity
  • Provide channels with specific characteristics either suitable for
    recording or stimulation on the same electrode
  • Provide flexible pole arrangements
  • Machine resolution at 5microns
